Media Relations Work
The office of John Della Bosca, Minister for Industrial Relations, Disability Services, Ageing, Commerce, Finance and Special Minister of State, January 2007 – March 2007 - three month contract.
Worked for public relations company whose clients included law firm Maurice Blackburn Cashman, Public Service Association, Unions NSW and Finance Sector Union(Commonwealth Bank Officers division), September 2005 – June 2006 – I co-ordinated media campaigns and ongoing media advice for these organizations. Major stories included:
- Shayan Badraie – In early March 2006 the Federal Court ordered the Federal Government to pay compensation to an 11-year old child for serious psychiatric damage caused by his detention at Woomera and Villawood detention centres. I co-ordinated national print, radio and television coverage of the decision and ghost-wrote an opinion piece for Maurice Blackburn Cashman principal Rebecca Gilsenan, which was published in The Australian 7 March 2006, page 12.
- Amcor class action – I co-ordinated a story for the launch of the class action which was broadcasted 11 April 2006 by the ABC’s 7.30 Report. I also ran the press conference for the launch, which resulted in national print, radio and television coverage.
- Commonwealth Bank Grooming Guidelines – I co-ordinated a story about offensive grooming guidelines issued by the Bank to Employees that was broadcasted by Channel Nine’s A Current Affair in late 2005.
- Campaign against NSW Opposition’s pledge to cut 20,000 public service jobs if they won the March 2007 NSW state election – I co-ordinated images for the campaign, press conferences and wrote numerous background papers.
